King Law Accounting Internship Program

 Purpose

To provide college students pursuing Accounting or Finance degrees with hands-on experience in the unique financial operations of a law firm. Interns will learn about client trust accounting, billing cycles, compliance procedures, and reporting while supporting the firm’s Accounting team.

 Program Structure

Type: Unpaid, for academic credit
Duration: 12 weeks with 1 week for time off

 Learning Objectives

By the end of the program, the student will be able to:

1.     Explain how accounting principles apply within a legal business environment.

2.     Demonstrate knowledge of billing, accounts receivable/payable, and reconciliation processes.

3.     Understand trust account compliance and reporting requirements for law firms.

4.     Analyze data to identify financial trends and support decision-making.

5.     Communicate effectively with internal teams to ensure accurate financial documentation.

Intern Responsibilities

·       Assist with accounts payable/receivable entry and reconciliation.

·       Support monthly billing and collections tracking using Clio reports.

·       Observe and help maintain trust account ledgers in compliance with state bar regulations.

·       Help compile monthly and quarterly financial reports for leadership review.

·       Participate in audit preparation (verifying documentation and client balances).

·       Assist with expense analysis and vendor invoice tracking.

·       Conduct small research projects

 Mentorship & Evaluation

·       Weekly Check-In: 15-minute progress meeting with Accounting Mentor or CFO.

·       Midpoint Review: Progress assessment using a short evaluation form.

·       Final Presentation: 10-minute summary of what was learned and recommendations for process improvement.

·       School Credit Documentation: Signed by GM and/or Talent Manager at completion.

 Program Overview and What to Expect

Throughout the internship, students will gain hands-on experience in a law firm's financial operations. The program begins with an introduction to King Law’s organizational structure, confidentiality standards, and the accounting systems used to manage firm finances. Interns will then progress through key focus areas, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and trust accounting, gaining experience with billing cycles, client payments, and compliance with state bar regulations. As the program advances, students will assist with financial reporting, expense auditing, and collections tracking, while also learning to analyze vendor costs and develop budget forecasts.

This structured progression is designed to help students apply classroom knowledge to real-world accounting functions while developing professional and communication skills in a collaborative legal environment.

 Eligibility

·       College student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.

·       Recommendation from accounting faculty or advisor.

·       Ability to receive school credit required.
